I got to see the Spartan Marching Band up close recently as they brought the 32nd Annual Grand Ledge Invitational to an exciting close.
Grand Ledge Invitational
Held every year at Grand Ledge High School, this fun-filled evening featured an impressive number of marching bands from high schools all over mid-Michigan.
Running from 4:30 thru 10:00 pm, 18 bands did their thing – one at a time – for 15 minutes each. It felt like smaller bands performed earlier in the evening, and each group got larger as the night went on.
At the end of the night, any wow-factor previous band-sizes may have inspired is put to shame…
…as the Michigan State University Spartan Marching Band marches in (a 5 minute treat) and FILLS the field like a BIG10 band should.
I have my own fond memories as a member of the Comet Marching Band – including an invite to march in Spartan Stadium, so the whole evening ends up being a great time for all kinds of reasons.
